Gavin is a big brother! He doesn’t know it yet, but he has a very tiny brother or sister who is scheduled to make an appearance toward the end of September! I’ve always wanted him to have a sibling, as I think it’s one of the best presents/toys he could have. A friend to play with and share with and teach all his tricks. I know he will be a fabulous brother and am looking forward to seeing them together when the baby is here, in the outside world.
We are planning to find out the gender this time, instead of waiting like we did last time. Mostly because we’re hoping it will make it easier for Gavin to grasp, if we can call the baby he or she instead of it and maybe even by name before the birth.
Chris has coded in a couple tickers that I picked out, one for Gavin’s birthday and one for Baby X’s development. (Baby X is our nickname for #2, since Gavin is Baby G and we don’t know the first letter of this one’s name yet.) The ticker gives a little bit of info on what the baby’s up to inside. Scroll all the way down to the bottom to see them. Hope you enjoy!
i created an account/page on www.flickr.com. mostly because my digital photo printer at work is out of supplies and we wanted something/someplace to print pictures that are more recent than, oh, xmas 2005…so the cool thing is if you make an account and add yourself as a friend/family of me/us, then you can order photos yerself. w00t. http://www.flickr.com/photos/jazzs3quence/
Well, we’ve been busy here. Gavin’s been climbing and walking and singing and he’s even started dancing! I’ve been running after him. He’s signing lots of words and is starting to make word-like sounds for specific words too. He says something that sounds alot like “this” all the time when pointing at things. Every night when we get ready for bed, Gavin helps take off his clothes and then hurries over to the hamper to put each piece in. Sometimes he’s not ready to be done with the laundry fun and finds other things to go in like a bowl or a belt or even a book.
We just got back from visiting Chris’ parents in California. We all had a good time. He was happy to see Grandma and Grandpa and some new toys and especially their singing/dancing trout on the wall. He showed off his walking skills and his babbling and a little bit of signing. He even gave a babble speech once, reminding me of his Daddy when he’s very excited about something. Gavin had a great time getting Grandpa to make the wall-fish sing over and over and he even danced to the fish’s music sometimes. He got to see lots of animals at the zoo and lots of fish up close at the aquarium which he was very excited about. He signed fish alot as he watched them swimming. He was also very excited to show off his flap book that shows animals and their “sounds” about thirty times to Grandma, Grandpa, Daddy, Mama, and anyone else he could find. At the airport waiting for our flight home, Gavin adopted another grandpa. He saw a friendly looking grandpa person and went over and sat on his lap and showed off his toy toucan. The guy was very pleased to be an instant grandpa.
We’ve been doing pretty good with the food concerns lately and are gearing up to try some things that have been a problem before to see if they still are. We’ve been experimenting with goat cheese in the last week or so and we haven’t given Gavin any yet but he doesn’t seem to react to my eating it. I have to be careful though because many varieties have rennet in them which is a dairy product. I’m hopeful that goat cheese will be okay for him which will really open up quite a few possibilities…macaroni and cheese sauce being the foremost in my mind, but salad with some feta sounds really good too!
Oh, and we received a very nice little video camera from Chris’ parents and Chris has been trying it out already so there may be some moving clips of Gavin’s antics soon as well as some still shots I’ve been meaning to get up on here.
Gavin is watching his Daddy playing crazy peekaboo from behind his new large foam blocks. It’s hilarious!
Having some juice in his sippy cup….delicious!
This picture reminds me of a picture of me at about 3 yrs licking frosting off of beaters at my Grandparents’ house. I have the same funny “I’ve got something in my mouth” face in it.
Gavin is very good at sharing! Yesterday, he was feeling so generous, he dropped two of his very favorite fridge magnets into the bird cage. He likes to share his crackers with Kendra and his food with us, but this is the first time he decided the bird needed a little gift.
He also likes to play scavenger hunt. That is, he likes to make us play. He’s very talented at hiding things around the living room. Chris’ badge for work went under the fridge. My keys went inside the speaker. A spoon went in a crack between the computer desk and the computer. And the best hiding spot so far….my wallet went into the door of the fridge to keep cool! Good thing I saw that one happening!
Gavin’s been signing alot of new words lately which is really fun to see. The signs are so sloppy it’s hard to tell at first but he can say alot of things now. He also understands much better what I’m saying to him. If I tell him that Daddy will be back in a minute, he understands. If I tell him we’re going to go home and eat, he understands and makes the sign for food. When we get in the car he signs “go” and when we are home he signs “home”. He also signs “cat”, “bird”, “dog”, “more”, “all done”, “sleep”, “mama”, “daddy”, “light”, “snow” and “moon”. He also says the spoken word for some of these when he signs. He says “Nooo” for snow and makes tweeting noises for bird. It’s really rewarding to see him sign a word that he’s never signed before but that I’ve been signing to him for months.
He is a really good walker now, and is even pretty good in big clompy shoes that Mama and Daddy used to make him wear but now he helps put on excitedly. He loves to play new games and to be surprised. We built a fort out of his blocks and put a sheet over it to make a roof today and he had a blast. Also, Daddy makes his new toy stuffed kitty slide down a slide of blocks and Gavin picks up the kitty and hands it back for another ride, squealing in delight. His feet are ticklish and he likes to hand upside down and swing around and around.
Last night I got shocked really badly by the light switch with static electricity and screamed because it hurt and surprised me, and Gavin got upset. That’s the first time I think he’s understood that I was scared and got scared too. Before this, he just thought I was funny when I made a sound like that. I guess he understands that not all sounds are fun now.
These are from quite a while ago, when Gavin and Meara and I went to the park and Meara was photographer. Gavin is wearing his eskimo suit which finally fits him this year! Very cute! I’ve been meaning to put these up for a long time but have been busy and my computer was giving me some attitude as well.
and this one was taken yesterday. Gavin’s tired after running around the house like a tornado all afternoon.
today, gavin grabbed an old cd-rom we were using as a coaster off the dining room table, made a bee-line to my computer, hit the eject button on the cd-rom drive, and put the cd in the tray.
omg! he’s a super-genius!!
(the cd was really trashed, and he put it in upside down so i didn’t let him push it back in. still, though….)
i probably should have/could have posted this earlier, but i got my /gallery page up a few weeks ago on the new server and since doing so, i moved all our pics over to that server. most of them i then added to the gallery page. this means there are full-size gavin pics in the gallery which are good for printing your own copies at home if you’ve got a decent enough printer, as opposed to the resized copies found here.
also, there were a few avi movies that were made either accidentally or on purpose that wound up in our gavin pics folder and found their ways to the new server. those have been posted as well and you can actually watch the movies! this was exciting enough that i have started taking more movies of gavin on our digital camera and will post those in the gallery as well.
you can go to the gallery here. there’s also now a link on the sidebar. the gavin album is here and there’s a SUPERCUTE!!! gavin movie here.
